Fits

1996 to 1998 Vortec 5.0/5.7 V8 only, one-piece PTFE seal design. The 1988 to 1995 TBI trucks use an earlier two-piece seal design and need a different part, not this one.

Why it matters

A leaking rear main seal is a classic high-mileage issue on these small block V8s. Heat cycling accelerates the hardening and shrinkage that leads to it, and the leak shows up as oil at the back of the engine and on the bellhousing, often mistaken for a transmission leak at first.
