Fits

300SL, 420SL and 500SL specifically, from September 1985 onward. Earlier 280SL, 350SL and 380SL trucks use a different master cylinder, not yet sourced, don't fit this one to an earlier car.

Why it matters

A worn or leaking master cylinder shows up as a soft or sinking brake pedal, sometimes gradually enough that it's mistaken for normal wear until it's a genuine safety concern. Not a part worth waiting on once it starts.
