AC TXV Expansion Valve — Mercedes-Benz R107 SL
The thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) meters refrigerant flow into the evaporator. A failing TXV causes poor or erratic cooling even when the rest of the system is otherwise healthy — symptoms include icing of the evaporator or cooling that varies with engine speed or throttle position.
Replace the TXV together with the compressor and receiver-drier whenever the compressor has failed internally. This is part of the same job, not an optional extra. See the R107 AC Repair & Service Guide for the full sequence.
