AC TXV Expansion Valve — Land Rover Defender V8
The thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) meters refrigerant flow into the evaporator. A failing TXV causes poor or erratic cooling even when the compressor and charge level are healthy — symptoms include warm air, abnormal gauge pressures, or icing of the evaporator.
Note: the Defender uses a TXV, not the orifice tube found on GM vehicles. The replacement procedure and part are different — confirm the correct part before ordering.
Replace the TXV together with the compressor and receiver-drier whenever the compressor has failed internally. This is part of the same job. See the Defender V8 AC Repair & Service Guide for the full sequence.
