Defender AC hoses from the 1984–2000 classic shape run are now over 25 years old at minimum. Original barrier hose technology from this era is significantly more permeable than modern hose designs — slow refrigerant loss is close to guaranteed on an unmodified system. Hoses with no visible external damage can have internal degradation that causes a system to slowly lose charge and resist holding vacuum.

Any hose over 15 years old should be treated as a replacement candidate. Inspect every hose end for oily residue at every AC service. This universal hose set covers all common AC line sizes and is fully R134a-compatible.
